Four ways to practice self-care from wellbeing guru Sarah Davidson

Sarah Davidson wears many hats. Not only does the former-lawyer host podcast series Seize the Yay, she’s also an author, TV presenter and is the co-founder and co-owner of organic matcha company Matcha Maiden.

Familiar with juggling a busy schedule, especially during PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival, she sticks to four golden rules, shared with us today thanks to PayPal Pay in 4:

.

1. Don't look at your phone first thing in the morning. It’s tempting to open group chats, scroll through Instagram and read the headlines the moment our alarms go off. But instead, even if only for a couple of mornings a week, leave the phone aside and try meditating, taking a cool shower, stretching or making a drink before engaging with your screen.

2. Create small, easy, at-home rituals that make you happy. You don’t need a large budget to indulge in some self-care. Something as simple as lighting a candle or switching on an aroma diffuser, can transform your environment and inspire calm. It’s not so much about what you do, it’s about forming habits which help you feel relaxed as soon as you start the ritual.

3. Make time to catch up with someone you love. Sometimes we feel so busy, we don’t always make time for the people we love the most. Even if it’s just a short lunch break, a video call or a trip to the supermarket together, always find time to connect with the people who are important in your life.

4. Get enough sleep! Sleep improves your mood, memory, concentration and productivity. Studies show most adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep a night – if you’re not getting enough, it’s time to start putting sleep first.
