PayPal partners with Garage Sale Trail – providing QR codes for touch-free, in-person payments at thousands of garage sales across Australia
PayPal QR codes will offer fast, simple and touch-free payments for Australia’s largest sustainability and community event in 2021
Each year thousands of households, schools and community groups around the country register sales of pre-loved items with Garage Sale Trail, helping them reach hundreds of thousands of shoppers over two weekends.
Garage Sale Trail is back in November, this time over three weekends (6-21 November 2021), allowing even more people to sell and shop through garage sales, and play their part in the circular economy.
PayPal is proud to partner with Garage Sale Trail this year as part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, economic empowerment and enabling safe and secure transactions – particularly during the pandemic.
This November, Australians will be able to host their Garage Sale Trail event either online or in the community (subject to local health orders), with PayPal offering easy to use, touch-free QR code payments for in-person sales, and PayPal.Me link payments for online sales[i].
PayPal Australia CEO Eric Lassen said, “We’re excited to partner with Garage Sale Trail and their amazing festival of pre-loved stuff. By enabling touch-free in-person payments using QR codes, we’re helping keep the circular economy turning during the pandemic, saving pre-loved goods from landfill.
“We’re passionate about giving everyone access to affordable, safe and secure payment services and we also want to empower Aussies to generate income or find a secondhand treasure!”
QR codes are a fast, simple way to let buyers pay sellers without needing to exchange cash or payment information. No special equipment* is needed to get started, meaning they can be easily used in a garage or curbside sale. Only a smartphone and the PayPal app are required to scan a code and receive automatic payment confirmations.
With local communities still deeply impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, QR codes can help meet the surge in demand for touch-free digital in-person payments.
Garage Sale Trail 2020 diverted more than 1.5 million kilograms from landfill across more than 10,000 garage sales around the country. A huge achievement for the planet, sellers’ pockets and ethical shoppers all over Australia. More information on PayPal QR codes and PayPal.Me are available on the PayPal Australia website.
